Coached by GBMAA President, Master Curtis Page, Captained by international superstar, Michael “Venom” Page, and made up of only the best competitors from within the GBMAA and the rest of the country, Team England has become the dominant force on the World Championship circuit. Winning the last four World Championships in a row, with a record number of medals in 2008 (43 in total), Team England are paving the way for Martial Arts to finally become a fully professional sport, with all of the coverage and respect it truly deserves.
Holding multiple World Titles in Kickboxing, Creative Forms, Weapons Forms, Traditional Forms, Traditional Weapons, Self Defence and, more recently, Koshiki, Team England are not only the most successful team in the world, but also the most diverse. All this, despite the fact that none of the England squad are professional competitors, whereas many of the other countries team’s are.
This diversity allows a wide range of competitors of all ages to make the squad, with all GBMAA Competitors Club members granted access to their otherwise invitation-only training sessions. These sessions are unlike anything you will have experienced before and can quickly catapult your training to the next level.
Competing for Team England at the WPKA World Championships requires a once-a-year trip to the continent for a week in countries like Italy, Greece and Spain. Travel and accommodation can be expensive, however, which is why the Sport Martial Arts Union’s “Support Fund” and the work they do to raise money for it is so vital.
Master Page has always had dream of being able to pay for a 100 strong team to fly out to the World Championships. Based on our results from 2008, that would win us a total of 165 medals! Not a record that’s likely to be beaten by anyone else.
